OPEN THEATRE

Rhode Island School of Design - Concept design for an open Theatre.

Concept design for an open Theatre. The structure becomes more or less dense, creating visual planes that generate sub-spaces

The Open Theatre presents a program where the visual density of the structure creates planes that generate open or enclosed spaces. Lines which are then manifested as structural elements come together to form the cage that will give shape to the theatre and its parts.

The bouncing directions of sound waves within a space led to the design of the angular position and bending of the structural parts. The relationship of these elements as a whole results in a dynamic space. The movement of people in the theatre led to create more and less dense structures that would follow the purpose of the stages within their movement from the entrance up to the performance space.

The theatre was designed to be constructed on an existing site in Providence, RI.
